Member Categories
There are four nara membership categories: Fellows, Associates, Affiliates and Trainees. The criteria for each category are as follows.
Registered Property Receiver (RPR) Fellowship:
Applicants are required to pass the two-part examination, including a peer review to achieve Fellowship status. See below for further details of this exam and contact details for the RPR scheme. Membership of NARA is mandatory for Registered Property Receivers, and it is recommended that applicants join NARA as 'Trainee' members prior to their exam in order to have access to Guidance Notes etc.
Associate membership is for persons who, whilst not Registered Property Receivers (RPR's), have nevertheless undertaken LPA fixed charge receivership work for a minimum of 75 hours within the past 3 years. This might also include lawyers and others working within fixed charge receivership
Affiliate membership is open to appointors of property receivers, who will usually be employed by banks and other lending institutions
Trainee membership is for persons in training, whose curriculum includes that of the role of a Property or Fixed Charge receiver and who propose to become an RPR at some stage in the future. There will usually be a time limit of 3 years for trainee membership, after which trainees would be expected to have passed the RPR exam, or change their membership type to Associate.
Each Membership Application form (available as a download from the link below) must be completed and signed by the applicant and counter-signed by a Proposer and Seconder who are themselves Fellows.
In addition, the completed Application Form should be accompanied by supporting documentation (e.g. copy of letter of appointment, confirmation of hours worked or expectation in a letter signed by a senior Manager / Partner).
NARA Council reserves the right to alter the above membership criteria without notice.
The RPR (Registered Property Receiver) exam is held annually and comprises a written multi-choice and essay question paper followed some two or three months later by a 45 minute peer interview. The peer interview involves a presentation by the applicant on an actual LPA fixed charge case on which the applicant has worked. Questions will be asked on the efficacy of the actions taken on the case and the basis on which decisions were made. Candidates will then be required to apply for RPR Fellowship of NARA if they are not already members.
