Nara Annual Conference - 21st October 2021

Haberdashers Hall
21 Oct 2021

Description

We’re so pleased that our first face-to-face event since the beginning of the
pandemic is to be our flagship annual conference, where we invite experts to talk on
economics, politics and property.
Although we ran a successful and well attended virtual conference in 2020, we know
how much our members value the chance to network in person at our conferences
and so did not hesitate to book in at Haberdashers’ Hall once again. It’s a bit later in
the year than our usual Spring event, but it will be worth the wait!
Tea, coffee and biscuits will be served from 3.30pm to allow you a catch up with one
another before the talks, which take place from 4pm to 6pm. As usual, we ask our
speakers – see details below – to take questions from the floor, which always
proves lively and informative. Finally, we will round off the evening with drinks and
canapés in the beautiful Orangery and Courtyard until 7pm.
Please be assured the hall and reception areas will be well ventilated to minimise the
risk of Covid-19 infection.

Counter-terrorism consultant Major Chris Hunter
In a hard-hitting talk, former British Army bomb technician and senior MoD
intelligence analyst, Major Hunter will relate some of his experiences in Iraq as well
as give guidance on staying alert to the threat of terrorism and potentially related
money laundering when managing properties. This is of particular relevant to FCRs
handling larger commercial sites such as shopping centres.

Economist Andrew Sentance CBE
Just how bad is the fallout from the pandemic going to be for major economies
around the world? How will property markets be affected? And, as we approach two
years of life outside the EU, what will the short- and long-term impact of Brexit be?
Former member of the Bank of England MPC and world-renowned economist

Andrew Sentance will give us the most up to date answers to these pressing
questions to help us plan for the decade ahead.

Social housing expert Dr Len Gibbs
Have you been called in to resolve a fraudulent scheme involving an SPV? We’re
seeing a growing number of cases where investors have been lured by slick
marketing into buying schemes off-plan, which never got off the ground. When the
loans are eventually called in, the money has gone – laundered or taken by the SPV
owner. Dr Gibbs will share insights from his recent research examining a number of
such schemes in the Northwest of England.
